About What Is My IP Address

Use this tool to find the public IP address your current connection is using. T.LY shows the IP address first, then adds useful network context such as approximate location, ISP, organization, ASN, usage type, and whether the connection appears to use a VPN or proxy.

What is a public IP address?

A public IP address is the address websites and online services see when your device connects to them. Your phone, laptop, and smart devices may also have private local IP addresses on your home or office network, but those local addresses are not normally visible to websites. For a deeper explanation, read Public vs Private IP Address: What Is the Difference?.

IPv4 vs IPv6

Most people still recognize IPv4 addresses, such as 192.0.2.1. IPv6 addresses are longer and were created to support far more internet-connected devices. Some connections use IPv4, some use IPv6, and some are dual stack. See IPv4 vs IPv6: What Is the Difference? for the simple version.

Why is my IP location wrong?

IP location is an estimate based on network and provider data. It can show the wrong city when an ISP routes traffic through another region, when mobile networks shift gateways, or when a VPN or proxy is active. Learn more in Why Is My IP Location Wrong?.

How do I know if my VPN is working?

Turn the VPN on, reload this page, and compare the IP address, location, ISP, and VPN or proxy signal. If those details change from your normal connection, your traffic is likely going through the VPN. See How to Check If a VPN or Proxy Is Working.

What are ISP and ASN details?

The ISP is the company or network providing the connection. The ASN, or Autonomous System Number, identifies the routed network that announces the IP address on the internet. These details are useful for support tickets, allowlists, abuse reviews, and troubleshooting. For more, read What Is an ISP and ASN Lookup?.

What can websites see from my IP address?

Websites can usually see your public IP address, approximate location, network provider, browser details, and request timing. Your IP address alone does not normally reveal your street address, name, or exact identity, but it can be combined with cookies, account logins, and analytics data.

Can my IP address change?

Yes. Many residential and mobile connections use dynamic IP addresses that can change over time. Business internet, hosting providers, and some advanced home setups may use static IP addresses that stay the same until they are changed by the provider or administrator.
