T.LY URL Shortener for ChatGPT

Create guest short links in a conversation with the T.LY plugin.

T.LY URL Shortener is a ChatGPT plugin for creating short links from a conversation. Give it a public website URL and it returns a t.ly link you can share.

Submitted for review. Public installation is not available yet.

How to install it after public release

  1. Open the ChatGPT Plugins Directory and find T.LY URL Shortener.
  2. Open its details and choose the install option. Review the connection and tool permissions when prompted.
  3. Start a new chat and choose T.LY URL Shortener from the available plugins or tools.
  4. Ask T.LY to shorten your URL. Approve link creation if ChatGPT asks for confirmation.

You do not need a T.LY account or API key for this guest connection. Plugin availability can depend on your ChatGPT account and workspace. Installing it does not make every shortening request in ChatGPT use T.LY; choose the plugin when you want to use it.

Prompts to try

  • Use T.LY to create a short link for https://example.com/article.
  • Shorten https://example.com/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=launch with T.LY.
  • Create a T.LY short link for https://example.com/#contact.

What this version supports

  • Public HTTP and HTTPS destinations, with query parameters and page fragments preserved.
  • Guest links on t.ly, without connecting a personal T.LY account.
  • Immediate retries for the same destination normally reuse the result within a five-minute window.

Guest links are not saved to your T.LY dashboard. This connection cannot edit links, use your custom domains, or read account analytics. Create links through your T.LY account when you need those features. Creating an account later does not automatically claim a guest link or raise this plugin's allowance.

Limits and failed requests

Daily and shared service limits apply. The limit message tells you when to try again. Signing in to T.LY does not change the allowance in this guest connection.

  • Plugin not found: Check the public release status above and whether plugins are available in your ChatGPT workspace. You can create a link on T.LY's website instead.
  • Plugin did not run: Select T.LY URL Shortener and ask it explicitly to shorten the URL.
  • Destination rejected: Use a public website URL. Private network addresses and existing T.LY links are not accepted. Remove credentials and access tokens before trying again.
  • Creation result uncertain: Do not repeatedly retry. Check whether a short link was returned, then contact support if you need help.

What happens to your URL?

ChatGPT sends the destination URL to T.LY. T.LY stores the redirect and returns the short URL, destination, and guest status to ChatGPT. T.LY may process request addresses, link usage and security checks under its Privacy Policy. Never include passwords, API keys or private access links in a shortening request.

Removing the plugin from ChatGPT does not delete links already created. Contact [email protected] with the short URL for help with a guest link or a privacy request.

Other MCP clients

Compatible MCP clients can connect to the same guest shortening service. Use Streamable HTTP at https://api.t.ly/api/v1/mcp. The guest tool is create_short_link with a long_url argument; it does not require an API key. The same limitations and service limits apply. This MCP connection does not provide account access. Use the authenticated REST API for account-owned links and management.
