WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Two whistle blows were the difference maker in Purdue's (4-1-0) loss to No. 7 South Carolina (4-0-0). The Boilermakers suffered its first defeat of the season with a 2-0 scoreboard, despite a strong second-half performance and out-shooting the Gamecocks 9-5.

Both USC goals were direct results of calls against the Boilermakers in the first half. The first Gamecock goal was recorded on a penalty kick (32') while the insurance goal was knocked in off a free kick (42').

Despite the final score, Purdue allowed no first-half corner kicks and just two shots. After the Boilermakers stepping up play in the second-half, possession was almost equal, with the Boilermakers keeping control of the ball for 47% of the game.

Purdue's six second-half shots tied a season-most by a South Carolina opponent. Meanwhile, the nine Boilermaker shots tie the most USC has allowed in a game this season (tied No. 21 NC State, 8/22).
