List of Important Cancelled Around The World Due to Coronavirus

COVID-19 pandemic is one of the greatest threats to the world recently. And governments around the world are taking drastic measures to curb the spread of the disease. Imposing of curfews, lockdowns, and travel restrictions are some of the measures different countries are taking. Major events around the world have also been affected by the spread of coronavirus. Here are lists of major events that have been cancelled or postponed due to coronavirus. 

 Music Festivals, Gigs, and Events

Several music festivals, events, and gigs have been cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19. For instance, the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, cancelled its 2020 event due to the concerns about coronavirus spread in the city. According to the event organizers, “The show will always go on because it’s in our DNA. And this is the first time in about 34 years when the March event will not take place. 

 Furthermore, California’s Coachella Festival that was supposed to be held in April with Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, and Rage against the machine headlining has been postponed to April. Also, the Radio 1’s Big Weekend Festival that was due to take place in Dundee during late May has been cancelled. 

 Again, the World Health Organization (WHO) has postponed its UK tour, which was to start on the 16th of March due to fear of coronavirus. Similarly, Bullish Elish has postponed her world tour that was scheduled for March. The Tribeca Film Festival that was scheduled to be held in New York in mid-April has also been cancelled. 

 Film and TV Releases

Disney has announced the postponement in the release of MulanThe New Mutant, and Antlers(horror film) indefinitely. As of the time of writing this article, there was no word whether the new Marvel movie film Black Widow would be released. But from all indications, it’s likely going to be postponed. 

Furthermore, Universal Pictures has changed the release of Fast & Furious 9 from May 2020 to April 2121. This is happening after the company launched the film’s trailer with an expensive campaign earlier this year. Also, the release of Peter Rabbit 2 has been delayed until August. It was initially set to release in the UK in March, but the film has been postponed amid fear of coronavirus to attract a broader audience. 

Again, Daniel Craig’s final bond outing No Time to Die release date has been shifted from 1st April to November. This decision to postpone the film will reportedly cost the studio about $50million. 

Sporting Events and Tournament

The spread of the COVID-19 has also led to the cancelling of several sporting events and tournaments around the world. Some of them are; 

 Football

 The Premier League and EFL suspended all elite Football until April 3rd. At the same time, the FA confirmed that there would be no England internationals during this time. 

Furthermore, the UEFA has indefinitely suspended the Champions League last 16 second legs. 

Several events around the world have been cancelled and postponed due to coronavirus. It has affected major sporting events, film releases, and music festivals.
