On Tuesday 10 November 2020, the world celebrates the International Day of Science for Peace. Its goal, since 2001, is to highlight the significant role of science in our society and in our daily life for the concrete realization of a sustainable and peaceful world. The UNESCO's call today is to disseminate scientific knowledge as widely as possible, to promote the well-being of individuals and the community, especially at such a difficult time for humanity.

Patrizio Paoletti Foundation welcomes the invitation by relaunching it with an appeal to a personal and daily commitment: let us first of all educate ourselves to peace and spread compassion, kindness and hope around us. This special free booklet, entitled The Science of Education for Peace, is an invitation to start doing this in your life right away. It contains contributions from Adele Diamond, one of the 15 most influential neuroscientists in the world, and Patrizio Paoletti, president of the
Foundation. In the booklet you will find educational cues also from the most recent publications of RINED, our Institute for Research in Neuroscience, Pedagogy and Didactics.

We invite you to download, read and share The Science of Education for Peace your toolkit for sowing peace, in and around you.

The booklet is conceived and produced by the Institute for Research in Neuroscience, Education and Didactics of the Patrizio Paoletti Foundation, which has been involved in neuroscientific, psychological and pedagogical research at an international level for over 20
years. The aim of our research is to make education more accessible and useful to all, and understand the underlying mechanisms allowing change, because we believe that it is
the key to allow every person to be happy and generate peace around them.

Patrizio Paoletti

Patrizio Paoletti is the founder of the Research Institute in Neuroscience, Education and Didactics and the Paoletti Foundation for Development and Communication. Paoletti developed the Sphere Model of Consciousness, which has recently been considered the most advanced neuro- phenomenal model for consciousness. His research interests include the investigation of “consciousness-in-itself”, self-awareness and its neurophysiological correlates; sensorimotor paradigms aimed at the development of attention and will abilities, and their educational applications. In the educational field, through his many educational projects, Paoletti promotes a global approach to human development in terms of bodily experience, regulation of emotions, enhancement of attention and self-awareness. The neuroscientific investigation of Paoletti and his Foundation aim to provide scientifically validated education-tools, for different age groups ranging from children to adult education, as well as for professionals of education and non-specialized audience. Paoletti’s Foundation Vision is embodied in an education for Peace and Awareness as indispensable values for the future of humanity.

Adele Diamond

Adele Diamond, PhD, FRSC is the Canada Research Chair Tier I Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, BC, Canada. A member of the Royal Society of Canada, she has been named one of the “2000 Outstanding Women of the 20th Century” and has been listed as one the 15 most influential neuroscientists alive today. She was educated at Swarthmore (BA, Phi Beta Kappa), Harvard (PhD), and Yale Medical School (postdoc). Her research focuses on the cognitive control functions collectively called executive functions, dependent on prefrontal cortex, including the neuroanatomical, genetic, & neurochemical mechanisms that make those functions possible and how these functions are modulated by the environment. Her research interests include the roles of storytelling, dance, music, physical activity, and mindfulness in improving executive functions and academic & mental health outcomes; cognitive & perceptual-motor development, and their interrelations. In the field of education, her research is showing that focusing exclusively on training cognitive skills is less efficient, and ultimately less successful, than also addressing emotional, social, spiritual, and physical needs.

Research at international level for innovative, accessible, useful education

Patrizio Paoletti Foundation is a non-profit research institution founded in Assisi in 2000 by Patrizio Paoletti and a group of researchers, psychologists, sociologists, educators and entrepreneurs. It works thanks to the support of over 100,000 people to achieve a single goal: to bring out the best in all of us.

The Foundation carries out research at an international level for innovative, accessible, useful education. It studies human functioning through interdisciplinary research: neuroscientific, psychological, educational and social. The Foundation further applies the results in education and teaching projects to bring out the best talents in children and adults.
